Working with individuals
I work with individuals in a collaborative, empathic way, helping to develop a deeper understanding and acceptance of self. It is this greater awareness and acceptance that allows individuals to make important, lasting life changes. I use a variety of approaches in my practice depending on your treatment goals and individual needs. These include psychodynamic therapy (understanding how early relationships and experiences influence your current life), cognitive behavioral therapy (identifying and changing thoughts that may be contributing to difficulties), and EMDR-Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing, which can help heal the effects of trauma.
WORKING WITH COUPLES
By the time most couples come to my office, they’re frustrated, discouraged, and tired of going in circles. Many think their problems are insurmountable, that they’re beyond help. However, very few couples are beyond help. If your relationship is in trouble, don’t wait. And don’t give up. I have been in practice for 20 years. I bring extensive training in relationship dynamics and marital systems. I use a collaborative, positive approach and I offer tools and encouragement to even the most troubled relationship.
With my support and guidance you will learn to listen and to discuss openly the issues that have seemed unapproachable and irresolvable. My work is based on the premise that relationships—whether interpersonal or professional—work better when each person becomes less reactive and more receptive. Together we will create a metaphorical tool box containing positive communication styles, patience and listening skills as well as a road map leading to the goals you set for yourself.
I approach each relationship as unique and I structure our sessions around your specific needs and goals. Traditionally, we begin our work by spending time clarifying what your goals are and then develop tailor-made strategies to achieve them. We will work together to move through places where you feel stuck and will create an action plan that is unique to you.
Regardless of your past, your parents or the challenging person you picked, with work and commitment to a new process of communicating, I can help you create relationships that are more sane and more fun.
